Finance and Accounting Consultant (Freelance)

Six-month initial contract | Full-time | Immediate start | Berlin (4 days onsite, 1 day WFH)

We're supporting a financial services platform in a fast-scaling environment that needs an experienced finance professional to provide interim cover around its year-end close, while it hires a permanent team member. You'll strengthen processes around audit and regulatory topics and keep core accounting running accurately and on schedule.

What you'll do

• Support core accounting processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance and continual improvement in financial operations
• Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow statements, with a focus on clarity, consistency and compliance
• Support the year-end close and coordinate audit preparation with internal teams and external auditors, providing the documentation and insights they need
• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards (HGB, IFRS) and internal policies, keeping an eye on regulatory updates and best practice
• Identify opportunities to streamline and automate accounting processes, improving accuracy and efficiency
• Support budgeting and forecasting by working with Finance leadership to deliver data-driven insights and variance analysis

What you'll bring

• Already set up as a freelancer in Germany
• 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, ideally in an accounting/advisory firm or tech start-up environment
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field (an audit/accountant qualification is a plus)
• Proficiency in DATEV and advanced Excel; familiarity with Pigment is desirable
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, tax regulations and compliance requirements
• Professional fluency in English and German (German is desirable)
• Strong organisation and time management, with the ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
• A sharp analytical mindset, with a knack for spotting issues, improving processes and using automation or AI-driven tools
• Available to start immediately
